    The Village of Arlington Heights
    http://www.vah.com
The Village of Arlington Heights was incorporated in 1887 with a population of approximately 1000 residents. Many of the early inhabitants of the Village were farmers; however Arlington Heights became one of the earliest commuter suburbs after the completion of the train depot in the mid 1800’s. The population of the Village continued to grow and experienced an increase of residents in the years following the founding of the Arlington Park Race Track after World War II. The 50’s and 60’s was a time of widespread growth due to the expansion of Chicago area economy and the increase of automobile sales. Today the Village of Arlington Heights is the largest community in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs. Located 25 miles from downtown Chicago and covering 17 square miles, the current population is approximately 78,000 residents. With excellent access to trains, expressways and O’Hare Airport, Arlington Heights is popular with commuters. Renowned for the outstanding school districts, a vibrant cultural scene and progressive village planning, the Village has maintained its small town charm. The downtown area is a popular destination where residents and visitors can explore a variety of new additions including the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, movie theater, retail shops and numerous award winning restaurants. Tree lined streets, the 5 acre Lake Arlington, golf courses, and neighborhood parks are attractive for families and empty nesters. Arlington Heights is a charming suburb with “Big City” benefits including a nationally recognized hospital. According to a study by the U.S. News & World Report, Northwest Community Hospital is among the 50 best hospitals in the nation for the treatment of cancer and digestive disorders. Excellent health care, award winning schools, dynamic cultural opportunities such as summer festivals, markets and concerts are just a few reasons why the Village of Arlington Heights is a wonderful place to live.
